San Diego is an amazing city. I once had the pleasure of spending four days there in the Hard Rock Hotel across the street from the convention center. And, while I could go on and on about how awesome the city is, all eyes are on that convention center right now. Why? Because right now, it’s convention season, and we’re smack dab in the middle of San Diego Comic-Con!
First off, DC has stolen headlines by talking again and again panel after panel about how the New 52 (what they’ve dubbed their new line of books debuting in September) is going to work. Personally, I’ve already picked which books I’m going to be reading at the reboot, so these panels are entirely useless to me. However, DC’s Vertigo panel was instrumental in determining that I would end up picking up the 100 Bullets team of Azzarello and Risso’s Spaceman and Brian Wood’s new Supernatural licensed series (although whether or not that falls into the Vertigo line is probably something I should check up on).
On the Marvel side, though, their announcements were not spoiled a month ago. They’ve announced a new Villains for Hire series, although it’s not been said for certain whether that meant Heroes for Hire was being canceled or not.
Also, we’ve found out that Jason Aaron is writing The Incredible Hulk. That kinda rocks.
Image Comics is going to have a hard time keeping me from buying their entire line of Skybound comics (although The Infinite is the one I’m iffiest on). The news about Thief of Thieves and a new Witch Doctor series have me pumped for next year at Image.
More to come, as SDCC continues this weekend!
